The Moment A Brain Damaged 2-Year-Old Girl Was ‘Brought Back To Life’ By Her 12-Year-Old Sister

Parents of two-year-old Poppy Smith believed that she was brought back to life by her older sister who blew a raspberry on her tummy while she was unresponsive.

Poppy suffered a brain damage and doctors were not optimistic that she would survive. She suffered from Moebius syndrome, a condition which prevented her face muscles from working properly.
She was born at 29 weeks and doctors warned that this might cause her to have a few delays. But fortunately, she had been meeting all her milestones since then.

Then a few days before her second birthday, her mother went to wake her up but she could not get her to respond. Her parents quickly rushed her to the hospital.
After a few tests and treatments, it was discovered that she had hypoxic brain damage.
Although, the doctors were able to get her to breathe on her own, she was still unresponsive.

One day, Poppy’s family came to visit her at the hospital. They had accepted that they might be losing her soon so they wanted to spend as much time with her as possible.
She was still unresponsive when they arrived, until her 12-year-old sister, Macey, blew a raspberry on her chest. Poppy surprisingly let out a giggle.
Her father said, “That was the amazing moment when she laughed, as Macey blew a raspberry on her belly. It was astonishing. We found out afterwards that it wasn’t uncommon for people in this state to show emotion, but to us, it seemed like she was responding.”
Since then, Poppy had baffled doctors with how fast she was healing. She had improved tremendously even though she had to learn how to crawl and talk all over again.

The doctors are baffled,” her father said, “They say that she shouldn’t be doing what she is doing. They are so glad she is, but they didn’t think she would. She’s proving them all wrong.”
She has been undergoing physiotherapy to improve her mobility and speech skills. It is the hope that she would continue to get better.
