A baby born prematurely has miraculously been brought back to life in a sandwich bag after his heart stopped ʙᴇᴀᴛɪɴɢ for 40 minutes. Doctors tried “one more time” to revive Ryan Colquhoun after he was born 17 weeks early with a weight of 1lb 7oz (just 650 grams). His ᴅᴇᴠᴀsᴛᴀᴛᴇᴅ mother, Claire Nobile, 25, told the Daily Record she feared the worst. But doctors kept him in a plastic bag to keep him warm and worked on him for 40 minutes in the ʀᴇᴄᴏᴠᴇʀʏ room at Princess Royal Maternity Hospital in central Glasgow.
And, ᴀɢᴀɪɴsᴛ all odds, he made it through and is now about to celebrate his first birthday. Claire, from Glasgow, said: “They never gave up the fight for him.” They worked with him for about 40 minutes. “Ryan, who was born very small, his hand wrapped only half of his mother’s finger. Collapsed lung, ʙʟᴇᴇᴅɪɴɢ ɪɴ ᴛʜᴇ ʙʀᴀɪɴ, E.coli, 51 days of mechanical ᴠᴇɴᴛɪʟᴀᴛɪᴏɴ and 4 ʙʟᴏᴏᴅ transfusions. The baby was also treated for hypothermia, sepsis and needed laser eye surgery at 16 weeks old to treat a rare condition Blindness.
